PAGE 2 - SINGLE POINT PERSPECTIVE Cont'd.

title-3-copy(7KB)

On page 1 you learned how make a single point perspective drawing of a road.
In the next pictures you will see that when you draw your horizon line high up or down low on your page, it changes how high up off the ground (or water) you are when you look at things in the picture. The lower down you draw your horizon line on your page, the closer to the ground you will be in your viewpoint. Are you going to be a little worm looking from right down on the the ground, or a bird flying high above and looking down on everything?

Now the pictures so far have shown ground as being nice and flat, which is isn't always.
Here is how we can show a hill and a dip in the ground.

Sometimes, like in the picture of the train on the high bridge above, the VANISHING POINT that the lines go to, is OUT OF YOUR PICTURE. Here is a painting of the ocean and as you can see, the point where the black lines would meet is outside of the the painting. The lines still work though, don't they, making some of the waves look further away and some up close.

In the painting of the girl patting the horses, can you see how I have used the Perspective trick to make the fence and the track look as though they are going into the picture so that you feel as if you could walk down that old bush track?

In the third picture, can you see how Melissa (9) has used perspective lines to show the corner of the room in her painting called "Home".
