FUN PAGE 1

Lets have fun making up some characters with different expressions
so we'll begin by drawing some "EGG HEADS"
You will need some drawing paper, a pencil and eraser.
Then you need to sit somewhere where you can see your face in a mirror .
Next, draw some ovals on your paper to use as heads.
They don't have to be neat because most of the ovals will be covered up later when you add hair and hats etc.

Now comes the fun part!
When you have your page of ovals ready,
look into the mirror and see how many different expressions you can make!
Try putting on a happy face - then a sad one - then an angry one and so on.

Watch carefully to see what happens to your eyes, eyebrows and mouth when you change expressions.
Now pick up your pencil and try to draw your expressions. They might turn out something like these...

Did you have fun?
Maybe you could ask someone to sit opposite
so that you can draw each other's expressions on your ovals!
That would be even MORE fun!

OK now the next step is to add things
like hair, beards, ears, hats, necks, scarves, collars or ties to your "egg heads".
Here are some to show you what we mean.
We know you won't need to copy these
because you will have so much more fun making up your very own characters!

Of course once you can draw expressions, you can put them on anything you want!
Here are some houses and trees with faces for example.

Attention parents & teachers:
If you are concerned about the danger of mirror breakage,
simply pair the children up and have them draw each other's expressions.
This is also an excellent drama exercise.

We would love to see your very own cartoon drawings, but not ones you have copied.
This is because to be original and make up your own drawings is very, very special.
If you like, you can attach your images to an email with just your first name, age and the town/country where you live, to
jduell@pnvr.com.au
and we will publish some here for children everywhere to see.
